ProCom Consulting and Ambulance Victoria established a program which included process improvement, culture change and training to address serious occupational violence issues involving paramedics.
The OV policy was developed to clearly articulate a position of zero tolerance to occupational violence against paramedics. To increase management accountability, investments were made in IT solutions to enhance management oversight of occupational violence incidents.
The program resulted in a 49% reduction in assaults on paramedics even though risk exposure has increased. The judges were impressed with the innovative approaches taken by ProCom to engage AV’s geographically dispersed staff and the training and culture change required to overcome the occupational violence problems paramedics were experiencing.
It was a pleasure and a privilege to work with Ambulance Victoria on the successful Occupational Violence Prevention program, (OVPEP). The whole team at Pro-Com are extremely proud of the result in helping to create a safer working environment for paramedics.
